ZIP System™ R-Sheathing is an integrated exterior wall sheathing system designed to combine structural sheathing, continuous exterior insulation, and weather protection into a single installation. By bringing multiple components of a conventional exterior wall assembly together, ZIP System R-Sheathing helps simplify construction while improving thermal and building-envelope performance.
Each sheet combines ZIP System structural sheathing with rigid polyisocyanurate insulation and an integrated water-resistive barrier. The continuous insulation is installed outside the wall framing, helping reduce thermal bridging through wood studs and improving the effective R-value of the complete wall assembly.
Unlike conventional wall assemblies that may require structural sheathing, separate exterior rigid insulation and housewrap to be installed individually, ZIP System R-Sheathing integrates these functions into one product. This can reduce the number of materials being handled on site, simplify installation sequencing and help contractors create high-performance exterior walls more efficiently.
The exterior ZIP System surface provides an integrated water-resistive barrier, eliminating the need for traditional housewrap when installed according to manufacturer requirements. Panel seams are sealed using approved ZIP System flashing tape, while openings, penetrations and more complex transitions can be detailed using ZIP System tapes and liquid flashing.
When properly installed and sealed, the ZIP System assembly provides both air and water management, helping create a tighter and more durable exterior building envelope.
Continuous Exterior Insulation
One of the primary advantages of ZIP System R-Sheathing is its continuous layer of exterior polyisocyanurate insulation.

Integrated Air & Water Protection
ZIP System R-Sheathing incorporates the recognizable ZIP System exterior surface directly onto the structural sheathing. This integrated layer serves as the wall's water-resistive barrier, removing the need to install a separate layer of conventional housewrap.
Seams between sheets are sealed using compatible ZIP System flashing tape. Windows, doors, penetrations, inside and outside corners, and other transitions can be detailed using compatible ZIP System flashing products.
Proper sealing of the complete system creates a continuous exterior air and water control layer while protecting the building from bulk water intrusion and uncontrolled air leakage.
